I usually get a month pass, but for this month I got daily ticket from skytrain, and since I needed to do some shopping I returned after 25 mins of the expiry date of my daily translink ticket. The police came and asked for my ticket and since it was expired 25 mins before, he gave me a $175 ticket fine.
I just want to know if appealing requires going to court necessarily, and if you think it would be helpful if I appeal in this case since I can provide my monthly pass of this month and explain that I returned only 25 mins after the expiry time of my ticket (but I do not like to go to court).

25 min over, 1 hour...it doesn't matter, it's expired.

What, exactly, are you going to tell the judge? "I was only a little expired" is admitting that you are in fact guilty. "I wasn't expired" is a lie.

pay the fine and next time pay attention. maybe 5 minutes would be ok but not almost a 1/2 hour.

go to court and u will loose.

An appeal is for when they made an error in law. You admit that your ticket had expired - which means you had no ticket, and were trying to ride for free, which is illegal. I'm not sure on what grounds you can make an appeal. You sound guilty to me.
