Can anyone recommend a good tour company in Vancouver? I will be coming on one of the cruise ships for the day and want to make it a real adventure. ..

I don't know any (not that they don't exist) and a day doesn't seem that long. But you could rent a bicycle and explore Stanley Park, or take a bus to Grouse Mountain and go skiing, hiking or just sit in the restaurant and enjoy the view. If it's raining the whole day maybe buy an umbrella and visit Science World, the maritime museum or Granville Island. There's probably SCUBA and kayak tours out of Granville Island. The Sea to Sky Gondola at Squamish has nice views and put in a via ferrata last year, and there's world-class rock-climbing at Squamish, including guided rappelling (which has a relatively low skill requirement). Google will probably find you lots more activities you can try. The cruise ship probably has a wall full of brochures, though I admit some forward planning is probably a good idea.

Walk around downtown and Stanley Park.
