actually those other posts are incorrect.
The Canada Place/Pan Pacific Cruise Ship Terminal is NOT the only berth for Cruise Ships - in fact Ballentine Pier, on the EastSide is a good $10 cab ride from Canada Place - so you should confirm which terminal you are to be at before assuming it is Canada Place..
there are dozens of hotels in the City - for every type of budget - cabs are readily available and provided you are at a downtown hotel - no more that a $15 trip.
five star hotels: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Four Seasons
nice upscale: Pan Pacific, Hyatt Regency, Le Soleil, Wedgewood, Metropolitan, Westin Bayshore
nice bargain hotels: Hampton Inn & Suites, Georgian Court, St. Regis
bargain hotels: Days Inn, Ramada on Pender, Howard Johnson On Granville
all are downtown - of you can afford it I would reccomend the Bayshore (for its proximity to the water and Stanley Park) or the historic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (the Grand Dame of the city).
You're better off taking a cab into the city from the airport rather than bunking out there, and then trying to beat traffic to catch your ship (traffic can be tedious in from the airport). There'll be plenty of cabs at the airport. There's aso a shuttle bus called the "Airporter" taht services all the major donwtown hotels and is mebbe $15 as opposed to the $30 + you will pay by cab.
