It's mainly because in the news, a large share of the crimes committed were done by Indians.

Unfortunately, it's just a fact that there are Indo-Canadian gangsters active in the lower mainland. As mm says it's a cultural thing, a lot of the gangsters come from respectable middle-class families. Young Punjabi men feel peer pressure to be macho, drive a nice car, have nice clothes etc. That's how they end up getting into gangs even though they might not really need the money. I'm sure it's like that in other cities in Canada, it's just that the ongoing drug war in Vancouver keeps these guys in the headlines when they get shot.

I think in Vancouver part of the issue is that there is a large mainly punjabi population where as in T.O there is a mixture of the different Indian groups. Also it is my belief that the culture esp. towards young men ie. the punjabi prince allows them to get away with all kinds of crap. Family and parents do anything to protect their sons and to that end they also give everything to their boys. These guys don't have to really work, they drive nice cars, have money and they get bored so they want thrills and play with gang culture. Once you are in that kindof lifestyle you want more and more and it draws others into the scene

I spent the first 18 years of my life in Vancouver but I have never judged any indo-canadians as drug dealers. But Vancouver is the drug capital of Canada so that maybe a huge factor.

Because in Punjabi Indian gangbangers/drug dealers in Vancouver engage in high profile violence whereas in other cities they don't. I'm not sure why.

For every human race/group, there's always one who is the biggest "scumbag". Maybe the worst scumbag from Indo-Canada group ended up in Vancouver, thus starting a big drug ruckus there....

What kind of "indo" anyway? Indian? Indonesian?
