If you're in Vancouver on August 1 or 4 you shouldn't miss the "Celebration of Light" fireworks display in the harbour. It's a great display and also an excuse to sit on the beach (it's a good idea to go early - bring a picnic!). The website with schedule is here: http://www.celebration-of-light.com/

Vancouver itself has great things for the visitor - lots of walking, sightseeing and great food! Tourism Vancouver has a very useful (and easy to use) website: http://www.tourismvancouver.com/visitors/

A few suggestions (a fair few but more choice that way!)

PnE at Playland is on I'm sure... (PnE has displays and such, Playland has all the rides and games). If not Playland definitely is.

And you can check out the scenery in Stanley Park, ride the little train around a small area of Stanley Park, etc.

Shopping in Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby (just outside of Vancouver. There're maps on how to get there online).

Granville Island is pretty cool.

Science World is fun! You can have fun and learn things there. I think Body World is gone from there, but there's other things to do in Science World.

If you're daring, go to the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver.

You can go rafting... there's white water rafting nearly everywhere.

Hell's Gate outside of Hope is great too! You take a tram over the Fraser River to the other side where there's history stuff, but also little shops like the fudge shop and a gift shop, etc. And there's a bridge back if you don't wanna go back up on tram (which I think is easier since it's a steep hill to climb but it's your call...)

The Otthelo Tunnels in Harrison Hot Springs (also a nice lake for cooling off there) are nice.

Bridal Veil Falls has a nice, easy hike where it brings you to a waterfall that looks like a veil (thus getting its name). You can climb up (despite warnings, people climb up to in front of the waterfall. It's a nice mist to cool you off as well).

There're many waterslides for fun too - Cultus Lake Waterslides in... well it's in Yarrow which is outside of Chilliwack (you cross the Vedder Bridge and Cultus Lake).

Many other things... depends on how far you want to go out of Vancouver if at all...

Go mountain climbing at the Grouse mountain. It takes about 1hr 30min climb to the top.Sightseeing,go around the mountain, drink coffee there.Take gondola go down.

Yes, in the early August has the international fireworks competition at English bay in downtown.

Stanley park is also a good spot.

In downtown,go Gastown,Chinatown,Yaletown.

Buy a one day pass ticket of skytrain, take skytrain to everywhere, there are two different lines now.

Go stanley park,Queen Elizabeth park,VanDusen Park...

Shopping at the Bay(DT),Metrotown & Richmond...

If you have more days there, Horsebay & Whistler should visit

Go for chinese food and sushi, most other food is just horrible here.

It depends on you where you want to go. Go to the tourist bureau and take a tour buss of the city. Stick to skytrain and express busses to go around, the rest of public transit in vancouver is horrible. Also depends on the days of the week.

There is a public workers strike right now, so some public places might be closed.
