Me, my mother, my brother and his girlfriend will be going to Vancouver soon and I need some information about places to go for leisure...not art stuff or museums though. We will be staying for about a week. I already tried to get some info on yahoo and google and all i got so far is Granville Island and Stanley Park. Any more suggestions? Thanks!!!

Hello!

I live 20 kms from downtown Vancouver (15-20mins away). I practically go to downtown 4 times a week.

Vancouver is a great scenic city but you'll have to go outside to experience a lot more.

Yes Granville island is so nice especially now in the summer. Go to a restaurant called "Bridges" it's the big yellow building with one of the best patios in the city. Also you can do a bit of shopping in the area too but not Sears shopping, this is the good stuff. Small shops and mostly homemade art and crafts shops are there. The market is nice too, usually consists of fruit stands, nice bakeries, and coffee shops. (Area isn't THAT big and it used to be an island)

Stanley Park is also nice. If you and you're family want go walk around the park on the seawall. One of the best scenic walks by the water. There is also a small zoo and the aquarium is a MUST!!!

Robson street is the busiest street in the city for pedestrains. But it's mainly meant for shopping so I suggest go experience more than shopping. I'm sure you can do that in your area.

Van Dusen gardens are open now. I believe it's close to Granville street just south of downtown. Just mention the place and you'll find it for sure.

If you REALLY want and have the time and can afford it. Go take the ferry to Victoria. Great ocean city on the southern tip of Vancouver island. You can go to www.bcferries.com and see how much it would cost. You'll have to take the tswassen - Schwartz bay route.

For a nice picnic, go to White Cliff park in West Vancouver. White might be spelt Whyt, not 100%. But if you mention it to a tourist centre they'll find it for you.

it's nice when sunny of course, but make sure you have a picnic there and have a little walk by the water. it's amazing.

Whistler can also be a great destination but if you want to buy stuff make sure you have money. Or if you want to stay overnight it's not cheap either. It's roughly a 2hour drive from Vancouver. Don't know if you're renting a car.

Transportation is below par here.

I have a few other tid bit places. feel free to e-mail me at sashasorg644@hotmail.com

Vancouver is a great city. It's easily the most laid-back Canadian city; much more than cities like Toronto or Montreal. If you're coming from the U.K., you'll be glad to know Canada is quite British in culture, so the biggest thing to get used to is the fact we Canadians drive on the wrong side of the road. There are areas of Vancouver to stay away from -- the East End can be kind of rough and there are loads of junkies. Last time I was there I had the pleasure of watching a group of skinheads beating up on a poor newspaper box. Aside from that, you'll be OK. Kitalo, the West End, and Point Grey are all lovely areas of the city. Enjoy your stay.

"Hi"........Ok a long winded answer but here goes............one of the things you should get is a "Transit Pass" which is good on the buses, the Sky Train, and the Sea Bus ( inexpensive harbour tour to North Vancouver)....this gives you access to to Lynn Canyon and the Capilano Suspension Bridge plus access to Grouse Mountain and the Sky Ride to the top

and you'll be able to see the Grizzly orphanage, Raptor flying demonstration and Lumberjack show....all great stuff..

With a transit pass you can also visit via the sky train and all of the outlying areas ( Burnaby, New Westminster etc etc.)

Metro Town Centre in Burnaby is Canada's 2nd. largest Mall next to the West Edmonton Mall and is in Burnaby and the Skytrain stops right there.

Greyhound goes to Whistler (Home for the 2010 winter Olympics) from Vancouver and that's certainly worth a look at...the Sea to Sky Highway is quite spectacular and rather interesting at certain moments ! lol Again however a full day is required! If you do go the "Zip Line' is a hoot as well as the Gondola.

I'm throwing in a web cam of Whistler that you can look at......also have a look at the Gallery section......

Victoria is certainly achievable by using Pacific Coach Lines (Google them ) from the bus depot downtown but you'll need a full day and the ferry ride is quite amazing, ya know eagles and orcas...not every trip but quite a bit .*lol*

NOW AS CONCERNS BEAUTIFUL DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER..... itself there is a variety of things to do, from Granville Island, to Gas Town,Robson St., China Town, Stanley Park, Vancouver Art Gallery, the Lookout, Vancouver Aquarium, Vancouver Museum and Observatory, Imax Theatre and great shopping and lots of Pubs and great multinational "food" places ...too, too ,too , many to mention! *lol

I'd suggest you "YAHOO" or "GOOGLE" the above mentioned places and you'll be pleasantly surprised and they are all great .

You'll find when you are here that Vancouver that is a safe city and one can walk around and just enjoy the many facets it has to offer quite easily !

The spectacular views of ocean and mountain , and our beaches ( English Bay, Kitsilano and Wreck Beach ) are complimentary of course ! *lol*

Anyway there is tons to do and you won't be bored !

Here's some interactive maps...for navigation purposes and a good web site as regards Vancouver......

Hope that helps ya and a "Welcome" to Vancouver" ! *S* (Michael

I don't know how old you guys are, but there's always Playland (amusement Park) or Science World (geared a little bit towards kids)

There is a Zoo outside Vancouver somewhere as well. The Aquarium in Stanley Park is great.
