Montreal is not cheaper than Vancouver - and the employment opportunities in Vancouver are plentiful right now. You can still find places in your price range - but it's mostly student-type accommodation in the area near UBC. The other option is to head out into Surrey or the Fraser Valley - or up around Mission, where you can take the sky train into the downtown area and not have the hassle of driving and parking. But where you live is likely going to depend on where you are working so you don't have a long commute every day. You can google up the Vancouver Sun and check the classified ads to find out about housing and the various areas. Just stay out of the Main and Hastings (downtown Eastside) area, because that is slum country.
