I would drive to Squamish with a stop at Shannon Falls. I don't think I would continue on to Whistler as summer time does not offer a lot of activities. You can hike, cliff climbing, canoe or rent a bicycle or ride the lifts to see the view. There is rock climbing at Squamish. Alternatively drive out to Deep Cove for brunch and kayaking.
Walk, jog, bicycle around the Stanley Park seawall. Check out the artists on the lawn. Free.
Explore the shops at and watch the buskers at Granville Island. Have coffee on Commercial Drive (Little Italy) Have dessert at 49th & Main Street (East Indian desserts) eat barbecued duck in Chinatown.
