I am thinking of moving my family to Vancouver, Canada. I have 3 kids under six. What neighborhood?

I would like to know more about the schools as well. We want to be in a family friendly neighborhood but like to take advantage of all that there is to do in a new city.

My suggestion is a bit different. Since you will be new to Vancouver, there are some considerations you should look into. If you will be working, will you be driving? Will your wife be driving too if she works? Do you mind a long commute or do you want to use public transport. Do you want daycare near the house or near the office? Is it public school or private school that you want for your kids? Are public libraries, community centres, or even groceries important to be close to your residence? I suggest you determine these and get 3 or 4 possible locations before asking an opinion at which of the locations would be a good choice. BTW are you going to buy a house or just renting? Is it a basement, townhouse, or apartment building? so many factors to be considered. Get back to us once you've decided to narrow it down.

North Vancouver is also a great place for families, and surprisingly, the housing prices haven't jumped as much as some of the other neighbourhoods in the city. You've got direct access to the moutains, the ocean, and parks. There are some really good schools and lots of community type activities in North Vancouver. You're still pretty close to the city - accessible via a SeaBus or two bridges - but the North Shore has a great neighbourhood feeling that you can't get in many other parts of the city.

I used to live in Vancouver. Lived there for nineteen years. Moved to the suburbs in 2001, cannot afford the real estate there anymore. Kitsilano area is a good neighborhood.
Pricey but nice area. You will love it there. Lots of ameneties around. Stores for browsing and shopping. Bus accessible. Crime rate I am guessing is pretty low compare to East Vancouver area. Re schools, cannot help you there.
But, try accessing the Vancouver School Board. Hope my answer help you. Good Luck!

If you have the money, West Vancouver is arguably the best neighborhood (although technically West Vancouver is actually a city). They have excellent schools there.

I have to ask why Vancouver? It's a VERY expensive place to live and unless you are moving there because of a job, and making some serious coin, I'd strongly advise you to think of a different place.
Victoria is a beautiful place to live and is cheaper than Van-City!

Marpole or Kitsilano. Alright pricing, great neighbourhood.
I live downtown and I can say - if you have kids, don't move downtown. Haha. Trust me on that one.
I lived in Burnaby for a while, in the Skeena/29th area - That wasn't awful. Might want to try that.

Kerrisdale. It's close to downtown, lots of residential areas, close to UBC...check it out!
